‘Leontes’ the Scholae Palatinae conducted of Piraeus Long Sword Competitive training in the memory of Saint George.

For eons (even in the days of Ottoman occupation) at the eve and at the feast day of Saint George, the faithful conducted fight sports to honor the Saint.

The most common sports was ridding, wrestling and fencing with wooden swords and staves.

Today at the eve of the Feast day of Saint George, ‘Leontes’ the Scholae Palatinae of Piraeus conducted a long sword Competitive training to honor Saint George, following the traditions of medieval Greeks, the Eastern Romans.
